Student Summer Maintenance Worker
This entry-level position is a great opportunity for high school or college students who enjoy working outdoors and being active. You will assist with routine maintenance and improvement projects that help keep roads, parks, and public areas safe and clean. Work is performed under direct supervision with clear instructions.
Job Duties:
• Help repair and install road signs, posts, barricades, and mailbox supports
• Assist with pothole repair, roadway shoulder work, and minor road maintenance
• Support traffic control by placing cones and helping guide traffic safely
• Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming trees and brush, watering, and general plant maintenance
• Clean and maintain picnic areas, rest stops, and maintenance yards
• Pick up litter and roadway debris
• Assist with warehouse and supply duties
• Perform minor equipment repairs and basic carpentry tasks
• Complete light clerical tasks as assigned
• Other duties as needed
Applicants who are 18 or older with a valid driver’s license may operate light equipment and certain power tools.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be at least 16 years old
• Must be currently enrolled in high school, college, or a trade/vocational school
• No previous work experience required
Work Environment:
This is a physically active, outdoor position. Applicants must be comfortable working in various weather conditions, standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and bending, kneeling, and walking on uneven surfaces. Required safety equipment will be provided.
Employment Requirements:
• Must pass a pre-employment physical
• Must pass a drug test prior to employment
• Subject to random drug testing
• Federal regulations do not allow medical marijuana as an acceptable explanation for a positive drug test in this position
Schedule & Status:
• Temporary, non-management position
• Full-time (40 hours per week)
• Monday–Thursday, typically 7:00 AM–5:30 PM
• Possible nights, weekends, holidays, or adjusted hours as needed
• Onsite position
• Travel up to 5%
Pay:
• Hourly position
• Salary range: $15.00–$22.00 per hour
• Anticipated starting pay: $18.00 per hour
