If you haven't started on your 2026-2027 FAFSA yet, please get started. Use the link below to begin.
TAFSA
If you think you might be eligible to use the TASFA application there are a few clarifications your student will need consider BEFORE completing the form.
State aid can only be awarded to students who are classified as Texas Residents.
To determine residency, the student should reach out to the Admissions Teams at their college or university.
If Texas residency is established, the student can submit the TASFA application.
Student should also apply for scholarships. Most Colleges have a Foundation/Scholarship office that offer one application to determine eligibility for all of the scholarships they award.
Use this link to help determine if TAFSA is right for you.

2026 - 2027 FAFSA
Real Time Identity Verification
Starting in August, anyone who creates a https://studentaid.gov account with a Social Security Number (SSN) will have immediate verification of their account instead of the current one-to-three day waiting period, thus allowing for immediate transfer of tax information from the IRS. Any user without an SSN will need to follow the identity validation processes currently in place.
Simplified Contributor Invite Process
Student will be able to invite a parent or spouse as a contributor by only entering an email address instead of the contributor's personally identifiable information. A unique non-case sensitive code will be generated and sent to the parent or spouse via email and will allow them to accept the invitation by entering the code on an "Accept an Invite" page or at https://studentaid.gov once they are logged in.
If a contributor starts the FAFSA on behalf of a student, the existing process will be used to invite the student to the form. This is why it is an easier process to allow the student to start the FAFSA and invite their contributor.
Current Net Worth of Business and Farms
Colleges and universities have advocated extensively for a particular change to the FAFSA, and this long-awaited change will take effect this year for the 2026-27 application. The description has reverted to its original language from before the FAFSA simplification. As a result, do not include a family business with 100 or a few full-time employees, farms where the family resides, or a commercial fishing business and related expenses.
Financial Aid Myths
Melissa Yauck from Panhandle-Plains will be here in October to provide information about completing this year's FAFSA. If you have any questions about the process, she can help! Her information is below.
