Proceeds from the Miss Sumter High Pageant go toward the Sumter High Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was organized in 1946 by the Edmunds High School Student Council as a memorial to the school’s alumni who died during World War II. The council decided to have this living memorial rather than a plaque or statue. Throughout the intervening years, the Sumter High School Memorial Scholarship/Loan Fund has helped many Edmunds and Sumter High School alumni attain their higher education.
Years later, the Miss Sumter High Pageant was established in an effort to continue raising funds toward the Sumter Memorial Scholarship Fund. Currently, any senior at Sumter High may apply for this educational scholarship. Funds are granted based on the needs of the applicant. Applications are available each Spring and can be picked up in the guidance office.
The pageant itself has become an empowering platform for many young ladies at Sumter High School. The focus is not simply on their beauty but their academics and integrity as well. It is an opportunity for our young women to take pride in their school and represent their respective classes as emerging leaders.
