Sumter County Manufacturers & Technology Expo
Annually, Sumter Economic Development along with TheLINK Economic Development Alliance in partnership with the SC Department of Commerce Workforce Division, readySC, and Central Carolina Technical College, host an expo for 8th grade students to showcase the advancements in modern manufacturing and technology. The Manufacturers and Technology Expo allows our students guided tour of the state- of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Technology Training Center as well as a unique look into the world of manufacturing with help from participating industries.

Annually, our 7th grade students attend the Sumter School District Education and Career Ready Summit. The primary focus is to expose students to career and higher education opportunities here in Sumter.
Therapy Dog Program
Bates is currently creating a therapy dog program at our school. Our autism class is visited by Sparky and Dennis Sides of Paws For Friendship. Students learn proper pet care. They also are able to read to the dogs. Bates has its own therapy dogs in training, Bantam, Serenity, and Journey.
Ark Veterinarian Services
Dr. Sarah Blackwell of Ark Veterinarian Services LLC works with our Dog Character class and therapy dogs. Here, Dr. Blackwell is providing feedback on student Dog Character Traits presentations.
Meteorologists from Shaw AFB facilitate lessons about weather with our 6th graders yearly.
