You may show them how to go to the next question, or encourage them to stay focused, but anything further help will skew the progress we will be able to see. The math has an option for us to turn on audio to have the directions read to them. Please do not give hints.
Your web browser must have a current update or the screen will go blank during the test.
They get about 1.5 minutes to answer each question a clock will appear to show time is running out.
The Early Literacy has reading and a math section. There are 27 total questions.
Star Reading and Math each have 34 multiple choice questions.
All sections start with some sample questions before it begins.
If your student needs a break, press the "Stop Test" button in the top right corner, then select "Resume Later" to save progress and continue the at a later time; you will need to enter the monitor password to confirm the pause action. There is no limit to how many times a STAR360 section can be paused. However, it must be completed within 8 calendar days (192 hours) from when it was originally started.
The assessments are adaptive, meaning they will get harder with each correct answer and easier with incorrect answers. Let your child know it is ok when they don't know the answers, it is designed to give some questions above their level. As you can see below if they demonstrate they can add double digits, it will see if they can add triple digits, then in the thousands, with decimals, fractions, mixed numbers, exponents to find out what the highest level of adding they can do. It will get too hard and that is ok. Some students find it helpful to have a plan in place for the too hard ones; for example, when I don't know I will select A.
