5th Grade Literature/Language Google Classrooms

All lessons and assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. Students should already be a member of my Literature and Language classrooms. Please send me an email (yoderc@sullivan.k12.il.us) if your student can not find our Google Classroom for their class period. I am happy to send them a new invite to join the class.

ELA Assignments by Week

Week 1

Week 1 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on March 30th. They are due on April 3rd.

March 30: Perseverance Articles and Quiz

Read the three articles; "Beating the Odds", "No Mountain High Enough", and "Little Girl, Big Dreams." Once you have finished the articles, please take the quiz via google forms. The articles and quiz are posted in Google Classroom.

April 1: Integrate Information from Multiple Texts

Part A: On Monday you read three texts all involving perseverance. Today, you will locate information from each article and complete the provided chart by selecting a text box under each category.

Part B: From the same articles, you will identify both similarities and differences among the three articles. You will complete the chart by selecting a text box under each category.

Week 2

Week 2 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on April 6th. They are due on April 10th.

April 6: Overcoming Obstacles

Please watch the provided video in Google Slides. Once you have watched the video, please complete the Overcoming Obstacles assignment posted in Google Classroom. Be sure to use complete sentences and good details. Finally, please create a flipgrid about an obstacle that you have overcome. How did you show perseverance? The flipgrid link is in google classroom.

*Packet Assignment- If you do not have internet access and are completing work from the paper packet, please read the Newsela article "Third-grader ho was born without hands wins handwriting competition" and answer the attached questions. Think about how this article relates to the texts you read last week.

April 8: ELA Skills Assessment

You will take a quiz based on the articles and skills we practiced this week. This skills test will be provided on Google Classroom.

Week 3

Week 3 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on April 13th and April 15th. They are due April 19th.

April 13: Text Structure Intro and Description Text Structure

Read the Description Text Structure slides. Next, read the text titled "Cape Cod" and complete the graphic organizer. Finally, answer the text questions in Google Forms. All materials will be posed in Literature Google Classroom, or found in the paper packet.

April 15: Sequence Text Structure

Read the Sequence Text Structure slides. Next, read the text titled "How Pencils are Made" and complete the graphic organizer. Finally, answer the text questions in Google Forms. All materials will be posed in Literature Google Classroom, or found in the paper packet.

Week 4

Week 4 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on April 20th and April 22nd. They are due April 26th.

April 20: Problem and Solution Text Structure

Read the Problem and Solution Text Structure slides. Next, read the text titled "A Good Night's Sleep" and complete the graphic organizer. Finally, answer the text questions in Google Forms. All materials will be posed in Literature Google Classroom, or found in the paper packet.

April 22: Cause and Effect Text Structure

Read the Cause and Effect Text Structure slides. Next, read the text titled "Online Shopping" and complete the graphic organizer. Finally, answer the text questions in Google Forms. All materials will be posed in Literature Google Classroom, or found in the paper packet.

Week 5

Week 5 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on April 27th and April 29th.

April 27: Compare and Contrast Text Structure

Read the Compare and Contrast Text Structure slides. Next, read the text titled "Amphibians vs. Reptiles" and complete the graphic organizer. Finally, answer the text questions in Google Forms. All materials will be posed in Literature Google Classroom, or found in the paper packet.

April 29: Text Structure Review

Use the text structure cheat sheet to review the types of text structure. Complete the four text structure review pages posted in Literature Google Classroom.

Week 6

Week 6 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on May 4th and May 6th.

May 6: Text Structure Test

Please take the text structure test posted in google classroom or in the paper packet. (Paper packet test starts with #3)

May 6: All About Me Text Structure- Description and Sequence

Complete the Description and Sequence All About Me Text structure slides. Students will write informational paragraphs about themselves or something they are interested in. See each assignment for more specific instructions.

Week 7

Week 7 assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on May 11th and May 13th.

May 11: All About Me Text Structure- Problem and Solution and Cause and Effect

Complete the Problem/Solution and Cause/Effect All About Me Text structure slides. Students will write informational paragraphs about themselves or something they are interested in. See each assignment for more specific instructions.
