Welcome to the Makerspace
We are thrilled to welcome you to the Makerspace at Woodland Jr.-Sr. High School in Baileyville, Maine!
This exciting initiative provides students with a dynamic, hands-on learning environment designed to encourage creativity, collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving.
The Makerspace is equipped with professional-grade tools and technology, including photography and videography equipment, audio recording and editing stations, green screen technology, 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics and drone kits, computer programming resources, and much more. This state-of-the-art facility gives students the opportunity to explore a broad range of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts while also developing skills in design, digital media, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
The Makerspace is designed to inspire experimentation and creativity. Flexible workstations and a wide variety of materials allow students to design, build, prototype, experiment, and bring their ideas to life. It is a place where students can take an idea from concept to creation, learn from mistakes, and develop the confidence to try something new.
An important part of the Makerspace is our team of Student Assistants. Working in conjunction with the Makerspace Facilitator and Technology Coordinator, Student Assistants help support the day-to-day operation of the Makerspace and provide assistance to students and staff.
Student Assistants also help operate a student-run technology helpdesk, providing peer-to-peer technical support for students and staff. Under the direction of the Technology Coordinator, they may assist with password resets, hardware and software troubleshooting, computer repair, networking and connectivity issues, and other technology-related problems.
This provides students with an opportunity to move beyond simply using technology and begin supporting, troubleshooting, teaching, and creating with it.
Preparing Students for the Future
The Makerspace reflects the Baileyville School Department's commitment to preparing students for success in the 21st-century workforce. By providing access to advanced technology and meaningful, hands-on experiences, students can develop skills that will serve them in a wide range of careers, including engineering, computer science, technology, digital media, design, and entrepreneurship.
The Makerspace also serves as a collaborative hub where students from different backgrounds and grade levels—from elementary school through high school—can work together, share ideas, tackle real-world challenges, and learn from one another.
Most importantly, the Makerspace is about more than the equipment inside the room. It is about what students can do with it.
It is a place where students can ask "What if?", "Why not?", and "How can I make that?" It is a place to experiment, create, solve problems, learn new skills, and discover possibilities that may lead to future interests and careers.
Through the Makerspace and the Student Assistant program, the Baileyville School Department is fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, collaboration, and excellence—helping prepare our students to become the creators, leaders, and problem-solvers of tomorrow.
