What is Balanced Assessment?
Balanced Assessment is a continuum of using diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to help improve instruction and provide feedback to students.
- Teachers use diagnostic assessments to measure students’ knowledge before instruction.
- Teachers use formative assessments to adjust instruction based on students’ progress.
- Teachers use summative assessments to measure student mastery of content and standards.
*** This is a working/draft definition that will evolve over time as the district iCouncil committee continues their work on this element of the instructional framework. ***
