Next Meeting: TBD
All information regarding hours can be found below!
Hours play a huge part in National Honors Society, as service is one of the NHS pillars. All Members are required to get 23 hours each semester, and individually track their own hours on the sheets that were provided.
If you didn't get an hours sheet please contact our historian, Dennis Hupp!
There are three types of NHS hours and different requirements for each.
Chapter: consists of NHS-sponsored activities. These activities benefit our school. Such chapter opportunities can consist of school beautification projects, parking patrols, and tutoring.
Volunteer: Hours are similar to Chapter hours; the difference is that they are not sponsored by NHS. Volunteer hours can be earned anywhere, as long as it serves the community. Volunteer opportunities can consist of food banks, animal shelters, church volunteer projects, Habitat for Humanity, or events. You cannot double dip - no double counting events required for a class, other club, sports team, or job requirement.
Enrichment: unique; instead of serving someone else, you serve yourself. Enrichment consists of extra learning opportunities you may not receive elsewhere. Enrichment opportunities can consist of college tours, museum tours, plays, or opera. Football games do not count (Must provide proof, ex. tour guide, or picture with statue)
All Members are required to get 10 Chapters, 10 Volunteers, and 3 Enrichment each semester! All Chapter hours earned once you have reached all 10 required will roll into your Volunteer hours. Volunteer, however, will not roll into Chapter. If all Chapter and Volunteer hours are complete in 1st semester, additional Chapter hours will roll over into the second semester.
Hours used for a different service club, sport, class, or job may not be used for NHS. NO DOUBLE DIPPING!
Hours will be done on paper this year, not digitally! It is your responsibility to keep track of your hours and get them signed off by either Mr. Buffkin or Mrs. Romanoski within 1 week after the event. They will only be signing off on hours before or after school! Do not interrupt their classes.
It is highly suggested to take photos every time more hours are added in case of timesheet is lost, or ruined. If you lose your sheet without any record of what you did, you will have restarted all over again!
If questions or issues arise, involving hours, please free feel to contact any of the officers or advisors
