Adobe Animate Audion Sync
I had steps I assigned myself in order to complete the project without overloading my senses, which consisted of framework, then audio sync, and finally adding details to quieter sounds. I worked in layers where I sketched the whole video out and then, from that, decided more artistic parts within the sound volume in the audio. Once the base of the video was done, I added smaller shapes to capture the lesser heard sounds in the audio.
The mood in the audio is very suspenseful and almost has a feeling of impending dread.
The scratchy lines show how unstable the character is, and how, when those lines are expressed, it means he’s having a harder time. The colors change all the time, and the shapes are fast-paced to represent a fast heartbeat and a mind with overwhelming thoughts.
I used my previous animation experience to animate the character moving and walking to easily tell the story of what is happening. I used a shape change in the beginning to show that the character is changing constantly about what he thinks. I found the timing to always be a little off with small parts and it was a hassle to make sure all the frames lined up to the audio, but in the end I think I accomplished that.
My strength was my animation skills, with being able to move the character around for a clearer story; I struggled with thinking about what exactly to do for some sounds, and it just took time for me to figure out what to do. If I did this another time, I wonder how I can manipulate the shapes more
My subject is Malevola, who is from a game called Dispatch in a bar fight. I chose this subject because of the multi-person difficulty that I knew I could finish with more effort than my usual projects. With the design, I stayed pretty on point except for one character I changed and simplified the background.
I used the pen tool for almost every shape in Adobe Illustrator. One tool that really helped this process was using a shortcut to rearrange the shapes.
At first, I thought I would only get the base colors in, but after I realized I had more time, I added shading and highlights to the whole illustration. I investigated the pen tool further to see exactly what shapes I could make and arrange to fit what I needed.
In the logo, I chose three colors: light purple, dark purple, and light yellow. There are no outlines, and it is just shaped by the colors. The raccoon design is made into a circle for unity and to show my personality. These choices show my personality through my favorite colors and animal, A raccoon is fast, awkward, and creative, like me. The circle sleeping shape shows a bit of introversion and how reserved I can be at times.
First, I created a circle outline to fit the raccoon. I then created half of the face to duplicate for symmetry. The body was next, but all it was was a modified circle with a gradient. For the tail, I created the shape, and for the striped colors, I duplicated the shape and cut out the parts I would use for the lighter part. The stars were provided with a simple tool, and then I curved the edges. Finally, for the text, I used a thick font, converted it to a path, and proceeded to curve the ends and eventually tilt the text to the side.
The theme for my photomontage was “Self”, and my idea for this project was to forget yourself. The original woman image is the woman crying and confused; this image was perfect for the idea of someone not remembering their own face. I compiled a few photos of different facial features to show that she really doesn’t know what her true self is. The skull and smoke can also resemble the idea of “Self”, the skull represents something she can’t forget, something that is truly attached to her. The smoke can show the fogginess of memories, and her trying to place an idea of what her face is meant to be. The animation enhances this idea with the motion of her trying to place her face together and forgetting who she is meant to be.
Most of it was composed using the tween option that Photoshop provides you. I also utilized the drawing tool to show forgetfulness. The motion I'm most proud of is when the smoke from the candle goes up and the opacity lowers; the animation is smooth and looks realistic compared to everything else.
The animation of the smoke and the animation with the drawing tool ended up really successful, and I have to say that I’m proud of it. If I had a next time to do this project again, I would definitely look up more ideas of motion and animation on YouTube and prepare more instead of just throwing myself at it.
For the digital painting my idea was to create a goddess in the sky while using intricate values, and color theory. The subject is her sitting above the clouds surrounded by smaller clouds and petals flowing all around her. The pastel colors help show the sky and help convey the image of being in the sky. I wanted to create a realistic blend in the woman to contrast with the background.
For me what was difficult was the limited blending options and needing to find specific brushes to even make a line seem thinned out. In the middle of the assignment I lost the passion for the project, which made it difficult to complete and work to my best abilities. I was successful with the lineart and background since the brushes provided were fit for what I needed in the lineart, I found cloud brushes which made the clouds and sky look successful.
