This is my art gallery for 2d/3d art 2022-2023
For both of my drawings I wanted to make one more calm and the other to be more mad. In the first art piece the lines are smooth and calm like a smooth lake. The lines are curved and more elegant. I used hatching for the shading for both pieces and to make spaces even darker I did lines of all kinds of directions. The mood in the first artwork is to be calm, sad, and merciful. I did this because the character is fighting someone that they hurt when they were both children but at the time it was an accident but now the fight is a fight to the death. To make the character seem sad or feel bad I made the lines a lot more calm than the others and only made the lines a little wavy, not too much but still some so it wouldn’t look like a straight line. I think the first one is more successful because you can understand the lines more and the art work is much more clear while the second one is kinda messy.
In the second artwork I made the lines more aggressive, mad, and a little sparky. I wanted the character to feel mad and furious so I made the lines all rough and fast and sharp. Finally for both of the artworks I tried to make the shading in the same place and I wanted both of them to show the emotions that are going on the inside of the character but not on the outside. The mood for this drawing is made and hateful because the emotions inside the character are a mix of sadness and anger and for this one I made it focus more on her anger and rage for the opponent. The character loathes the opponent and for that reason is making her opponent the son of a scientist that experimented on her and made her the way she is now. I wanted the lines to show her pent up anger so I made the lines all jagged, fast, sharp, and a little explosive. Finally I changed the facial expression so the character can really show her anger on the inside.
In the cubist style and work I learnt that you can make your drawing with only abstract shapes and mostly dull colors. Originally you had to use dull colors like brown, white, and black. In the newer version you can add more colors like the rainbow and if you like there is a separate style that uses circles instead. The artist wanted a new trend for art, one that could have started in America so they thought and finalized it with the cubism style we know today. My artwork uses the cubist style by only using abstract shapes except circles. In the drawing I changed the style a little by using color and dull original colors. I wanted the horse to be bright and colorful, meaning that it could bring joy or entertainment. The background is more spaced out and only uses dull colors showing that the background shouldn’t matter no matter what it has and you should look at the horse. Finally with the background being spaced out the horse uses many shapes and different colors in each block. The most difficult part was the background and smoothing everything out even though each shape is huge. I’ve spent the last 3 days working on the background by making it better, darker, and smoother. I think I was really successful with the colors in the horse and background. I wanted the horse to be bright and colorful while the background is dull and I think we achieved it.
The purpose of this print was to show the texture within the hair to show its shape and see how it might even feel. The texture within the hair is somewhat light and crunchy. I was able to show this texture by lining out the shape and the shapes on the inside. I choose this texture because I want to show people how this hairstyle might feel. First I started with the lightest version of pink I could have then I needed to use more red to make it darker. After I needed to start using red and a little bit of black next I used more black and the same amount of red and finally I only used black. This is a reductive print because for every color I needed to carve more away from the block. During the project I learned how to carve away from the blocks to keep the other colors from disappearing and I also learnt how sharp the tools are. The most challenging part was when I needed to apply pressure because I just don’t think I'm good at putting in the pressure and getting everything on the paper. I would say I succeeded at the carving part because it was the easiest and best part.
Family Sculpture
In the sculpture I included five family members including me, my dad, step mom, my mom, and my step dad. My step-dads and my moms are similar in their shapes because of their personalities. My dad is strong but has a lot of emotion inside making my dads part a little broken. I wanted my shape color to be a mix of my dads and my moms my moms color being blue and my dads being red making me purple. My stepmom is a light pink being close to my dad with the red like she holds her feelings in but she is emotional as well and shares it with others.
With starters I'll be talking about my dad. From the front you can see he is big, strong and sharp, but in the back it’s more round and messy. This shows you that my dad is very tough on the outside but deep within the inside he’s more emotional and caring he just doesn’t show it. Next is my step-mom. She is a curved heart because she has so much love she can share but even with that love she was hurt and broken into and with the end curls showing she’s going back on the right track and healing.
Then there is my step-dad. He's mello and tired most of the time but in the sculpture clinging to my moms part showing that they care for each other deeply. Next to last there is my mom. She's mello at times and is tired because the end is more round but on the top there are swirls or holes even to show that she is strong and at times elegant. Finally, in the middle of my part there are three long lines each hitting the end of what seems to be somewhat roses meaning that even if I struggle and go back and forth in the end I stay strong and keep it together no matter what.
One one side I placed my dad and my step-mom and half of my shape and on the right side I put my mom and my step-dad with the other part of me on that side as well. This shows that even through separation there will always be a connection and other people on the other side and that you don’t have to choose, you just have to love both. At the beginning of the project I struggled with my moms and mine. Originally we were both swirls but soon changed to holes and roses. The paper mache was fairly easy. Other than my dads, originally he was gonna have stripes in the back instead of round bumps which were hard to get to. The easiest shape to do was my step-dads since there weren't any major difficult parts.
Night At The museum talks a little bit about divorce while having a kid. It shows how the kid has to go to both parents on different days or the week somewhat like me. The difference with me is that none of my parents have custody of me because of problems from the past and I have had to live in different areas in my life. Growing up as a kid with divorced parents can be sad but you can also make memories with others like moms boyfriend and dads girlfriend.
Expressive self portrait
My idea for my project came to me when I was in class. I was thinking about what I was gonna do for this project and then we had to do an assignment with just some questions that could help us think of what we could do. One of the questions was “ What are some experiences that were strong in your life?” Then it came to me that in the past I was completely different and I wanted to show the change of someone physically and mentally. A few years ago I had long hair, glasses, and only wore black hoodies. Now I now have short hair, contacts, and have a variety of clothing. My mental state was also very different before I was very depressed and sad. Now I'm happy and have my personality back. Showing these two sides would show others what just a couple years could do to a person.
I first started making the shoulders and neck. I took cardboard and made small slits to make it fold a bit but not fully cut. I added the more bendable cardboard onto the thicker board that holds everything together. After I made a neck looking like a rectangle using the same thick hours I used for the base. I then took the newspaper and made it into a ball. After it got so big I added small thin cardboard pieces to make the chin and nose. I proceed to use aluminum foil to piece all of the parts together and make everything whole. Shortly after I added the plastamold all over creating a simple base with no details. Next I started making smaller details, eyes, eyebrows, ears, mouth, and clothes. To create my longer hair I used small cardboard slits and aluminum foil and repeated the process I used to make the base. For the shorter side of my hair I clumped everything on making sure it was wavy as well. After painting I made the glasses on my side using a bendable metal and glued it onto the face. Finally after all of this the sculpture was done.
In this project I learnt and remembered who I used to be and how much I have changed for the better. The easy parts were the painting and beginning the hard parts were adding the sculptamold and hair. The skills I learnt here will help me in the future just in case I want to make another portrait again or need the knowledge for an assignment.
