JROTC Weekly Newsletter -- Week of March 9th
Welcome to this week's JROTC Weekly Update! Many thanks to everyone who worked and supported our Sonic Fundraiser last Tuesday. We made $712 to help pay for corps activities and equipment. Great job!!
We are continuing to prepare for the Headquarters JROTC Unit Assessment on March 27th!! We need everyone to lock in during the next 2 weeks of school when it comes to uniform wear & grooming standards, 30-step drill sequence & Color Guard demo preparation, Mission Brief prep, and/or assessment checklist completion. The Unit Assessment is our unit's report card for the year, and all cadets play a vital role in this major event, so let's #LVLUP and come together as a cadet corps to knock this thing out of the park!!
This week's shout-outs:
AS-2 cadets for showing immense progress in their 30-step drill sequence preparation. Keep working hard and showing up to the practices!
Alpha Flight and Bravo Flight for 100% uniform wear last week!
Cadet Jer'ryia Battle on helping the Chieftain Band earn Division 1 ratings at their recent competition!
Cadet Alana Carrasco for earning top scores for their category at the recent TAFE competition!
Fitness assessment top performers -- Cadet David Lujan for earning the "Silver Award" ; and cadets J.D. Hickerson, Martha Major, and Mariposa Vasquez for earning the "Bronze Award"! Great job!!
Reminders for cadets and parents/guardians:
While we want cadets participating on our teams and going on trips, it won't matter if you end up failing your class(es) when it's all said and done. Cadets, please take care of business in the classroom first, seek out tutorials and/or extra credit, and if it means saying "no" to a team or activity, then that is fine with us. Parents and guardians, we highly encourage you to check PowerSchool for status on your cadet's grades and absences. This will help ensure your cadet is doing what they need to be doing, not just in JROTC, but their other classes as well. Academics is Job #1 and one of the best abilities is "eligibility".
Cadets are responsible for the information contained in the Weekly Newsletter and the Weekly Announcements; this information is provided to help cadets be successful in the JROTC -- parents and guardians also need to ensure their cadet is staying up-to-date. If there is anything we as instructors can do better in order to help cadets be successful, then please let us know.
Cadets are responsible for making up any missed uniform wears as soon as possible but no later than the end of the Nine Week Grading Cycle, otherwise the uniform wear grade will remain a zero.
As we approach our upcoming JROTC Unit Assessment on March 27th, it's important that cadets are following established cadet uniform wear and grooming standards. This includes male haircuts / shaves, female hair / nails / jewelry, and wearing the uniform properly and proudly. Parents & guardians, please ensure your cadets are doing what they need to do by getting their hair / nails / jewelry in standards each week; if you are unsure what the cadet uniform standards are, then please reference pages 27-52 of the Cadet Guide found on this website.
Cadets who are absent from PT (and not on a trip list) are responsible for bringing a note from a parent/guardian or doctor, otherwise the wellness/fitness grade will remain a zero.
In the Air Force, we like to say "communication is the key to airpower". In JROTC, communication is crucial in everything we do. Therefore, cadets need to be checking their school email on a weekly basis, as well as staying on top of any Remind and/or team group chat as we frequently provide information on practices and other events.
Please carefully read all of the information below and also check out the "Master Events Calendar" and the "Announcements" slideshow for additional information on upcoming events. Have a great week!!
