Welcome to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) at Lake View High School, home of the Maidens and Chiefs!
The objectives of AFJROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline, and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals. In an effort to produce well-informed and helpful citizens, AFJROTC encourages its cadets to get involved in their local communities. This is one of the most interesting and fun aspects of the AFJROTC experience.
The AFJROTC program is based on the Air Force Core Values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do. The curriculum emphasizes U.S. Air Force heritage and traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, military aerospace policies, and space exploration. We offer students opportunities to develop their character through discipline, leadership, life skills, physical fitness, team building, and community service.
JROTC exposes cadets to leadership experiences that can be found in no other activity in high school. The JROTC program is run for the cadets, by the cadets. They occupy leadership positions within the Cadet Corps and are responsible for day-to-day management of the Corps. The cadets are challenged to follow and lead, but they incur NO military obligations. JROTC’s primary mission is to "develop citizens of character" -- the JROTC program has no recruiting goals or ties to the military's recruiting services.
The minimum commitment is to enroll in the JROTC academic class, and participate in essentially five co-curricular, graded events during the school year (parades, awards ceremonies, and Military Ball). First-year cadets may choose to opt out of uniform wear and simply wear the JROTC polo shirt. Students must be physically able to participate in the physical education program and maintain acceptable standards of conduct. We encourage each cadet to participate in at least one extra-curricular team, and volunteer in offered community service activities to obtain the full benefit of the JROTC program.
This website is designed to provide cadets, parents/guardians, and students considering becoming cadets information on our program. You are encouraged to explore this site to gain an understanding of what is expected of the cadets and what the cadets can expect from our program.
