My class recently did a unit on perspective. The things we were asked to do were two one point perspective drawings (one room, one hallway) and some 3D shapes. One the bottom left drawing, my subject was the shapes. The upper left hand drawing has a room as my subject, and the one on the right is the hallway for the subject. I made all of these with a pencil and ruler. First I identified the vanishing point (point where everything moves back to) for all of the drawings, then drew the horizon line. I used orthogonal lines to make sure the forms were moving back correctly.
There is no color in these drawings. They are heavily shape and form based. I tried to make sure that all the shapes looked like they were moving back and that the perspective was correct. I used a little value and contrast but not much. I feel like I could've evened out the dark and light better as the ceilings in both perspective drawings since they look quite flat compared to the rest of the drawing. I also didn't really know what to emphasize in these drawings so they don't look too interesting. I didn't really change anything about these drawings either, I just drew what I saw for the summative and the other two stayed relatively the same.
For my room drawing, I was trying to go for a medieval French looking room, but I don't think it really came off like that. Other than this, there is no meaning to the art. I suppose the hallway drawing relates to my life as it is apart of my school. I am most proud of myself for getting through this unit and actually understanding one point perspective. I've always found perspective as a tedious task but admiring others who do it well. When I usually do it, I feel no joy and the result isn't what I planned for. Even though these drawings aren't the most fun and interesting, I'm still proud of how they turned out. With that being said, I have to say that I did struggle a lot with perspective and this unit. It just took so much time. For example, the bricks on the wall in the hallway drawing. I'm not patient and I didn't enjoy doing them at all because they took so much time for me. I can say that I got through it since the bricks are drawn. If I wee to revise any of these drawings, I would fix the room drawing a little. I feel like if I drew in some pretty wallpaper then the walls wouldn't look so bland and unfinished.
