Sophomore Year
As the first class in the renewable energy specialization, students get to learn about and make electricity with all kinds of different renewable energy sources (wind, solar, hydrogen). Unique to this class is the approach to energy students undergo. It has students consider the environmnetal, economic, and societal impacts of energy.
Junior Year
This class gains students an energy-industry credential upon successful completion of an exam. Course topics include: electricity generation, distribution, and transmission as well as how utilities operate.
Senior Year
Each student's Capstone Project will be unique to them, their interests and post-secondary goals. In the past, students have built electric vehicles and wind turbines, organized intiatives to get better recycling facilities, built pollinator gardens, and worked with professionals to monitor the energy usage of Olathe West High School.
