Sophomore Year

This year for the STEM program, I am taking STEM biology and technology of biology. In this class, we worked on building an understanding of the basics of biology, and how our bodies work. We took a look at cells all the way up to entire ecosystems and our planet as a whole with a series of fun labs and lessons.

This was my first year taking a language, and to be honest, I was a bit nervous for this class; however, I really enjoyed it. We started with the alphabet and numbers and worked up to simple vocab and how to form sentences. By the end of the year, we had learned how to conjugate verbs in different tenses.

This year in geometry, we learned about perimeter, area, volume, and formulas to find all of these things no matter what shape it was that we were working with. We did a lot of group work to help each other learn and grow as students. We also took a look at quadratics and sine, cosine, and tangents for the first time.

In concert band this year, I am continuing to work on playing the upright bass. I have played electric bass and guitar for a couple years now, and this class helps me to further my understanding of music theory, and to develop my musicianship in class and during performances. These concepts are helpful in rock band as well.

In AP Euro, we spent the year learning concepts to prepare us for the AP test at the end of the year. We studied Europe's history from the Renaissance to the French Revolution and examined how history is relevant to today. Unfortunately, the AP test was compromised as a result of the pandemic.

This year in english class, we read a number of books, and focused on developing our skills in reading comprehension. We did a lot of theater exercises to familiarize ourselves with the topics and our classmates. We did creative work and group projects quite often as well. It was a fun way to end the school day all year.
