My group decided to do our project on pollution. Through the process of the engineering design cycle, we researched different types of pollution, and we narrowed it down to coral pollution through sunscreen. Our first step we finding and creating a recipe. We created a recipe off of information found online. Next, we made our sunscreen. Then, finally we constructed a presentation for our product.
Engeneering Design cycle steps-
Find a problem- Our problem is sunscreen polluting coral and other wildlife in the ocean.
Ask a question about the problem- How can we eliminate coral pollution while still making reliable sunscreen?
Research- Each of our 4 members researched on 3 different websites. We found valuable information through our research that helps us solve our problem such as recipes, data, and how our problem affects the world.
Prototype- We found a recipe that would make eco-friendly sunscreen. We made our sunscreen the next day, and the test results were decent. Within the first day of making the sunscreen, it was very effective. It rubbed into skin well and smelled good. But, we left the sunscreen on room temperature for 24 hours and it turned out hard and it would stick to the skin.
Publish and innovate- In our presentation, we detailed out next steps in our sunscreen. Our main step was retesting the sunscreen and making an eco-friendly and skin healthy product that could last longer.
2 things I did well-
I think that I contributed more than almost anyone in my group. I did 75% of the presentation and helped research. I think that I took major responsibility during this project compared to other in the past.
I think that I collaborated well. I worked with my group members and helped them with what they needed to do. For example, when Vincent was struggling on making the presentation, I showed him what he could do to make it look good.
2 things I need to work on or do better-
Communication. I think if I communicated with my group members over the weekends then the workload would be lessened on me.
Staying on task. I got off task a couple times because I felt that I was doing too much. I think that next time, I can really focus in on what I nee to do and get it done.
