For this essay we were asked to write a five paragraph essay about one of two issues, if Native American mascots should continued to be used or if Columbus Day should be replaced with Indigenous People's day. I choose the Native American Mascots topic and had to come up with three reasons we should not use Native American mascots. The parts of this essay included an introduction, three body paragraphs one including a rebuttal, and a conclusion.
Over the course of this essay, I think I had very good critical thinking and character. My critical thinking was good because I used evidence and reasoning to guide my decision making. When choosing what topic I was going to write about I used reasoning to choose my topic. I though it would be semi racist to choose Native American mascots should be kept so I did not choose that which I thought was good reasoning and decision making. Another thing I that was good over the course of this essay was my character. Whenever someone asked my what the topic of my essay was, I would ask in return. This happened a lot and so naturally a lot of people told me they were doing a topic that I didn't agree with. Instead of being rude and disrespectful when someone told me an opinion I didn't agree with, I was very respectful and didn't really even talk about or ask about it.
I do think there are some things I could work on including my communication and being a conscientious learner. Even though this was a project where we were supposed to work alone, I do think I could have asked for help from Ms. Beford and my classmates and ask for input on my essay as I was writing it. I think I could've done a better job about being a conscientious learner because I procrastinated until the last couple of days to actually do the majority of the article. I would work on it in class but on at home. My time management is very poor and I really need to improve on it.
