My next STEM project assigned to me was one that was very creatively free. My group and I were tasked with creating some sort of outdoor furniture that could be put anywhere in the San Marin campus. Eventually after discussing what we were going to do with my group we decided that we would make an octagon shaped bench, with an umbrella in the middle for shade, and safety from the rain. In our process of designing our bench we had to calculate many things like cost, size and overall structure of the bench, and where it would be located. So after coming up with the blueprint of what we wanted we decided to create our digital model along with our physical model. The physical 3D model was made out of strictly cardboard and glue but was an exact model of the real like version we want to create. Then finally after we had created every model we finalized it with a slide presentation and presented it to Mrs.Patel, and Mr. Williams.
Use of sun angles: using our understanding of sun angles we learned in class we were able to find the best place to place the umbrella for maximum coverage.
Human use patterns: Our bench was able to satisfy multiple needs in one, if you were tired you could sit down for some rest, take cover in the rain, or just from the heat in a hot summer day.
Material choice: For our bench we choose our materials very wisely. We wanted it to not only be comfortable and sturdy. But we wanted it to last a long time. So for this we chose s4s________ for the long lasting comfort.
Blueprinting: For our blueprinting my group and I drew out a rough sketch on graph paper. But once we had a good idea of what we wanted we drew a detailed version with measurements as well.
3D Modeling: Although we made both an online Tinker-cad model, we also made a real life 3D model out of cardboard. This real life one gave a much better idea of what we wanted our final project to look like.
Budgeting and material lists: During this project we didn't have a budget or set materials list.
During the entirety of this project I think I did pretty well on all fronts. I believe that I was able to be more compassionate in this project and help motivate my team to do there work. I also think that I was very creative in this project and I let that side of me take more control. I helped brainstorm more ideas for what to build or what to do in any part of the project. Although I think I did well overall there were definitely some room for improvement. For example I think I could of done more in the collaboration department. Although I did help and collaborate with my team I didn't do it as well as other past projects, which is why I think I could've done a better job. I also think that I could have been a better problem solver in some sense. There where times where there was a problem that needed to be solved and I couldn't either solve it or had the energy to solve it, which is why I think I could improve on that part of the 6 C ´ s.
