Capstone Step 1
Our Task
For this project, we are currently still in the first stages of tinkering and putting together our prototype. We have recently finished our research and project proposal and are moving on to the actual construction portion. This is a yearlong project, so we are in the second half of it. All of our designs have been finished, and now we are moving into the engineering part of the project.
Our Sketches and Designs
Here are multiple designs of our prototype. We have various angles, perspectives, and designs laid out. Some of these ideas are for sure to be implemented in our project, and others might be added it later.
Demand and Wish List
For this assignment, we first had to identify the issue at hand that we are working to solve, and then we made a list of what we need to happen and hope happens in order for our project to succeed. We did this by organizing various statements into two categories: Demands and Wishes. This helped us see what we need to focus on in our project, and what we can work on later.
Human Centered Design Report
For this report, we addressed a variety of topics. We talked about what our product is and how it is solving an issue, what people wants and need and where our product fits into that, and we also did research about our topic, and presenting what information we could find.
Market Research and Design Presentation
For this presentation, we compiled a bunch of our works, such as the demands and wishes list, our human centered design report, and our project proposal. We also included our schedule plan, mentor communication, sketches, and our team padlet. Once put together, it showcases our current project progress and where we hope to go from there.
Our Padlet
Our padlet makes up everything that we have been working on throughout this project. It contains all of our ideas, planning, and future goals with in depth explanations, images, and more.
Reflection
For this first step in our project, I think we have done really well at getting our project started. Two things that I think we did well were using our cultural competence and communication skills, and two things that I think we could work on are our conscientious learning and also communication skills. For things that went well, we have done a lot of research and looked at some of our survey results to see how we can make our product the best that it can be for our "customers" and our community, which leads into cultural competence as we make a product that works as best as it can for as many people as possible. For communication, I think that we have done really well at communicating with what needs to get done and what we have already completed. We also know who needs to do what so that we can get everything done efficiently.
On the other hand, for things we need to work on, sometimes, we end up getting distracted in class and we need to refocus ourselves. To further this, we can better our conscientious learning skills by being more productive in class and completing everything we need to outside of class. Also, for communication skills, while we excelled in some aspects of communication, I still think we all have a slightly different view of how we are visualizing the product, and I think it would benefit us to come together to get everyone on the same page.
Overall, I think that our beginning steps in our planning and construction are going well, and I am excited to continue the project and see what comes next.
