My Goals - Spring

My Goals For This Season

For this session, I am going to continue my goals from the previous one because I definitely feel like I can improve still with both of them before the season is over. My first goal is to continue to become more flexible. This will help me improve how my movements look and in turn, improve how I perform. I do feel like I have improved in my flexibility since when I first created the goal, however, I for sure have room for improvement. I am not as flexible as a lot of the people on my team, and sometimes, it can be noticed if my leg is not as high during a kick or my leap is lower than some others. With improved flexibility, I can perform these moves with better skill and more confidence. To achieve this goal, stretching every day will be the main way that I will reach this along with practicing those specific moves right after stretching to improve myself along the way.

The next goal that I would like to continue is performing my moves better than the last time I did them and going more full out than the last time if possible. After each competition, we get critiques from judges for each dance and then we take that and make changes and/or practice more before the next competition to hopefully score higher than the previous one. Using these critiques and also watching videos of my performances, I can track how I am improving on individual sections of each dance and apply it in my next competitions.

Performance Evaluation

Now that we are nearing the end of the season for dance, I want to reflect on how I have improved over the past year and what I can continue to work on for the remainder of the season and for next year too. My flexibility is something that I had wanted to work on a lot this year and I think I have improved a pretty decent amount. While I will never be super flexible, especially compared to some of the people on my team, I am able to go noticeably deeper into my stretches than before, and that shows my improvement. For next year, I will continue to work on my flexibility some more as it can only continue to enhance my dance moves. For my other goal, I definitely have been able to improve on making my moves sharper to look better at practice and onstage. During our practices, we run our dances many times and so I am able to watch myself in the mirror and give myself mental notes on what to do differently for the next time we run them.

For psychological benefits, I can for sure say that dance has some as it lets me take a mental break from homework and daily life and come to do something that I enjoy. I also get to spend that time with some of my closest friends and it is another time for us all to hang out together and we have all been able to bond really well as a team throughout the year. Lastly, for leadership roles, for this year and years past, I have been a teacher's assistant for a dance class for kids and adults with special needs and recently, I also helped with a dance - related fundraiser class for adults with special needs. They would come to the studio for one hour every week and we would teach them a dance and then recently, they performed it at the Peacock Gap Country Club at the fundraiser event. I really enjoy working with all of them and I am glad that I have had the opportunity to help them and be a teacher's assistant to dance with them every week.
