Argument Writing

In English, we read the book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian." This book opened our eyes to the way that Native Americans were shunned by society. We then took this perspective, along with other articles that we were given and what we researched, to write an essay about our opinion of whether or not Native Americans should be used as mascots.

Reflection

I think this assignment helped me grow as a writer. This topic forced us to find outside sources like articles to get extra evidence that proved our points. This essay made us deepen our understanding of problems in communities and really get to some of the less distinct departments of racism. Overall, I think I grew as a person in understanding the unseen challenges that many people face and of the seemingly small problems that are big to them and suppress their old and new ways of life.
