This project was an expansion of the previous project, in which each person worked to analyse the inner workings of an object that they decided to bring into class. This project had our entire group focus on one person's object to create a deeper and more in-depth analysis analysis. We started this by redoing the sketches previously done by the teammate whose object we chose. We then worked to individually analyse different aspects of how the object was created and how it works.
We created a report and presentation that analysed function, structure, materials, and manufacturing, and also proposed improvements.
Analysis of how raw materials are transitioned into what they are now (Forming, Separation, and Joining).
Analysis of the intended behavior of the system of interest and results in a functional design.
Analysis of how each part of an object supports internal and external forces.
Analysis of the properties of materials in an object.
I think I improved my conscientious learning during this project. My group was very trusting in each other, and did little regulation on each other. This required me and my other members to work diligently and independently to make sure that our project came together well. In addition, I think my communication improved during this project. This project required that we created a Gantt chart, which plotted out exactly who needed to work on what and when. This very clear communication helped me to work efficiently and will inform future decisions on planning and communication.
I think my group and I could have improved our collaboration. During the project, one of our teammates was absent for several days. As stated above, our groups had little outside or inside regulation, so our groupmate was left to themself to finish their part faster than preferred because we were not willing to change our plan. I think I also could have improved cultural competence in this project. The materials that were used to make the alarm clock we were analysing were likely created cheaply and in mass quantities, and we did not address this in our project. In the future I will attempt to recognize more things like this to bring to people's attention.
