Build A Band

Kyle Farbstein - 3. Describe your Instruments

For build a band I created a flute out of pvc pipe. I used a chart of notes to figure out where each hole I drilled should be. I drilled them and then when I played they all created different notes. The frequency was the main part that caused each note to play specifically. My group also created a video of a song we created using the instruments.

Chime Instrument

Normally metal tubes that are struck with some sort of stick.  It is a part of percussion and it creates a nice high pitched sound most of the time. It is based off of the natural frequency of a material.  Thickness or compostition of the material can chnage the sound.

Wind Instrument

You need a vibration for a wind instrument. Your lips can create that vibration to get the cool sound. The tube you use should be 1/4 the length of a wavelength.

String Instrument

A string instrument consists of any type of string and the notes can change by the length of the string or the tension. They mostly vibrate as one standing wave. The wavelength in 1/2 the note you are trying to create for a string instrument.

A main part of this project was the sound waves that you don't see. These waves are the sounds that we hear. The faster the wave the faster the note. There are multiple waves aswell which can cause different things and are for different things. The higher the wave the higher the sound. A lower and slower wave has less sound and doesn't go as fast. There also multiple parts to a wave like a:

Crest

Trough

Amplitude

wavelength

frequency

In this project I feel like our collabritive thinking was well and we thought hard about what we were going to do. I also feel like we were creative with it because we didn't choose mary had a little lam for our song like everyone else. We also could have communicated better because it was harder to make the song. We also could have used more critical thinkinh in the beggining.
