Drawing Concepts

Concepts

Orthographic: 2-Dimensional representation of a 3-Dimensional object. This is used to simply sketch the faces of a design.

Isometric: Representation of a 3-Dimensional object showing all three dimensions. Parallel lines are drawn as parallel and won't ever meet if extended, unlike perspective.

3D Modeling: Online projection of designs that display all angles of an idea. Our class uses the CAD software to configure our objects.

Perspective: Used to create a realistic appearance of depth in 3D objects. Uses vanishing points, foreshortening, and horizon lines to create this effect.

Reflection

These drawing tutorials, while time-consuming, have significantly improved my ability to convey my ideas with clarity to outside viewers. Before practicing as I have this year,  I struggled with the concept of perspective and creating images that seemed realistic.  I utilized my skills of time management and conscientious learning to complete the weekly drawing assignments and apply myself inside and outside of class. My work ethic over the last semester improved as I dedicated time regularly each week. I feel much more comfortable now in depicting products and objects from my mind onto a piece of paper.  Hopefully, I can continue to develop as a designer as well as an engineer through the portrayal of my group's final Capstone project.
