Step 3

Our Goal

In this next step of our project, our focus was on the development of our concept and presentation for Open House. As our prototype develops, we have continued to refer to our surveys and mentors for feedback while we construct a working model. In addition to the prototype, we have been working to evaluate all alternative concepts to confidently move forward with the best one. With this we have updated our project proposal document, adding in our new developments. We have also completed a lot more research on wiring the breadboard correctly to program both motors to run simultaneously.

Concepts

Classification Scheme: An organization tool for exploring all possible design techniques based on the functions of the machine. We used this to solidify our final version of our product with the user's interests in mind.

Human-Centered Design: Involves the human perspective and emotion in problem solving steps of a design process. Focuses on the user's needs and values to create a helpful, usable product.

Reflection

This step of our capstone project ran very smoothly for our group, as we have collected all the necessary materials and have spent time problem-solving ways to put them all together. We were able to complete lots of quality work in a short amount of time for this design step, without feeling rushed through any of it. We collaborated well and talked through various parts of the documents above to create a cohesive project overall. Our next steps will be to focus on the prototype itself and cleaning up some of the uncertainties that we still have.

Although I feel like we did a decent job over the past few weeks, some parts of our process still have room for improvement. For me personally, I can work on completing some of my alternate assignments for this class, which I have been struggling to complete on top of the assignments related to our capstone project. One way I can improve this is by trying to put more effort in on the first two days of the week, when I normally don't look too far ahead in regards to my assignments. As a group, I think we can still complete some more research or talk more with our mentor about how to wire the breadboard in a way that allows us to control the movements with a single button.
