Macromolecule Testing Lab

Our mission

In this lab, we tested for sugar, protein, starch, and fat in two food samples of our choice. By crushing up our samples and using different indicators we were able to determine which substances they were influenced from. After concluding this lab, I was able to grasp onto the concept of using an indicator to determine a positive or negative result.

Materials

  1. STANDARD SOLUTIONS: glucose, starch, gelatin, oil, water
  2. INDICATORS: benedicts, iodine, biuret, paper towel
  3. Hot plate, beaker, test table clamps
  4. Test tubes
  5. Pipettes
  6. Food samples (2)

Procedure/process

We began this lab by gathering together our supplies and choosing our test subjects, cheese crackers and peanuts. After grinding up our food sample into a powder like consistency, we added a bit of dionized water and were able start our testing.

reflection

Although our overall lab was successful, our groups collaboration was way off. As one of the 6 C's, this shouldn't be a foreign concept to anyone. Yet, we still managed to continuously get off task leaving another group member(s) doing the work, vice versa. One of the main reasons to this is that we didn't have a form of leadership to have been taken on to make sure that not only themselves were on task, but so were those around them. After realizing the potential that this lab could've had with the bump in the road of collaboration, I hope to increase my communication in order to better the dynamic of any of my future teams.
