Homeostasis Lab

The purpose

During this unit in biology, we studied about homeostasis and it's effect on different body systems. For the body system of our choice, my group picked the circulatory system, more specifically focusing on blood pressure. In order to test an aspect of homeostasis on blood pressure, we decided to compare our resting blood pressure to our blood pressure after drinking a juice that is high in sugar.

Blood Pressure Data

blood pressure poster

We used Google Slides to represent our data from our homeostasis lab on how sugary drinks effect your blood sugar.

Report

Blood pressure write up

In addition to the posters, we created a Google Document with further information.

Content

Homeostasis: the state of steady internal physical and chemical conditions maintained by living systems.

Body System: groups of organs and tissues that work together to perform important jobs for the body.

Circulatory System: a network consisting of blood, blood vessels, and the heart. This network supplies tissues in the body with oxygen and other nutrients, transports hormones, and removes unnecessary waste products.

Blood Pressure: the pressure of the blood in the circulatory system, often measured for diagnosis since it is closely related to the force and rate of the heartbeat and the diameter and elasticity of the arterial walls.

reflection

Throughout this project, there were a number of ups and downs. One thing that stayed consistant throughout our group was that we were all culturally competent in the fact that we had created a project based off of the data of our peers vs strictly ourselves. Not only this but we had also been conscientious learners due to our precise, timely manner. Since we had finished our testing in a short amount of time, we were quickly able to move onto the poster and write up. One thing that I would personally like to work on is communication. Since I was gone on one of the work days I should've remembered to give my group a heads up.
