Los Alamitos Unified School District Mission Statement:
“Students will thrive in a caring, respectful, and encouraging environment where they demonstrate academic excellence and develop unique talents in preparation for their future goals.”
At NOCROP/ Los Alamitos Emergency Response Pathway we support our missions by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and leadership necessary to provide compassionate, high-quality emergency medical care. Through hands-on training, community service, and a commitment to professional excellence and integrity, we empower our students to make a difference in their communities now and in the future, regardless of their professional purists.
1 year Goal: Our immediate goal is to continue to promote our program throughout our middle schools, local community, and our community college. We’re also pursuing a Program of Excellence certification through the Law and Public Safety Education Network (LAPSEN) in order to increase our networking with other distinguished LAPSEN programs that align with our program's standards and vision in order to better serve our students. Our goal is to also establish a credible skills aspect (SkillsUSA) to our program.
3 year Goal: In the next three years, our goal is to expand our educational and work based learning partnerships. To branch out to more of our local community colleges to establish articulation agreements with more community colleges that offer Fire and Emergency Medical courses so our students can receive college credits for taking our course in high school. In regard to work based learning, our goal is to increase the number of industry partners our students can utilize for work based learning, which often leads to employment opportunities after the students complete our program.
Long Term Goal: Our long-term goal is to establish our high school EMT course as a premier, nationally recognized model for excellence in CTE emergency medical training. With continued innovative industry-aligned curriculum, state-of-the-art training methodologies, and strong partnerships with healthcare and emergency response organizations, we aim to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to excel in the field. By setting high standards for education, professional development, and real-world impact, our program will serve as a benchmark for other institutions, ensuring our graduates are highly sought after and prepared to make a meaningful difference in their communities.

Academic & Career Advising: Los Alamitos and NOCROP have a great relationship and our counselors play a vital role in supporting our students and the CTE instructors. Counselors are regularly invited to come observe our skills and didactic encounters so they can better help support not only our students but our program.
Pathway Promotion & Enrollment: Los Alamitos High School actively works with our two feeder middle schools to promote our CTE program to the incoming freshman. This is accomplished most often through our Middle School Elective Fair and our Skills Trades Fair. These are mainly lead by current active students in the Emergency Response Pathway.
Industry Exposure & Work Based Learning: I work together with the College & Career Center Counselor, Marianne Schaeffer, and our Work Based Learning Specialist, Alyssa Portillo, who help facilitate at the campus level the industry expert guest speakers and handle the administrative aspects of our Work Based Learning Internships.
Individualized Student Planning: I work directly with our counselors to help students with IEPs and 504 who are interested in the Emergency Response pathway, and ensure the education plan aligns with our CTE course offerings.
Promoting Industry Certifications & Articulation with Local Colleges: I work with our counselors both at Los Alamitos and NOCROP to ensure we offer articulation credits to Santa Ana College for our Fire Tech and EMT programs. We also monitor students and analyze data to help enhance our post graduation employability and educational advancement opportunities.
Program Director (R.B. Weatherman) keeps track of and orders EMT supplies for our program. The NOCROP Administrator (Russell Harrison) keeps track our program budget.

The EMT Program Director is responsible for tracking and ordering supplies for the EMT program. This is done by bimonthly monitoring of supply spread sheets that the instructors are required to keep current.
Should a need arise, instructors are advised to contact the director for high value, immediate needs. The Program Director reports directly to Instructional Administrator the equipment needs of the program.
For our EMT supplies, we follow both Title 22 Chapter 9 and OCEMS Policy 505 Section VIII for required equipment.
The EMT program is well promoted within the school, school district, and to prospective students through quality program marketing materials, including flyers and website.
We have yearly Middle School Elective Fairs where we go promote our program to our feeder middle schools. We also have a yearly Program Showcase in which we display all of our programs at the high school and open our classroom to all prospective students.
NOCROP services 5 districts, 23 high schools and 3 middle schools, and our social media and marketing director does a great job of frequently spotlighting our EMT program on social media as well as the NOCROP website.
Our students knowledge, integrity, and professionalism in the work based learning environments is one of our biggest word of mouth marketing tools.
Our EMT students have printed program t-shirts and hoodies they wear when doing skills, assisting with disaster drills, and during our campus vital signs days.
Career and Academic Counselors are frequently invited to sit in on lectures as well as skills days. This allows them to have an understanding of what our program offers, which subsequently allows them to promote out program more effectively to perspective students.
