A Review of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Products

By Emma Zhang and Amelie Zosa

Published November 3rd

It’s that time of the year again, folks, and you know what that means…pumpkin is back! When stores release those pumpkin flavors, you know it’s time to bring out those cable knit sweaters and cozy blankets. That’s why we went on a mission to try as many seasonal Trader Joe’s pumpkin-flavored products as possible. We now are about 60% pumpkin and we would like you to be the same. We tried breads, spreads, beverages and desserts. It’s safe to say that at this time, Trader Joe’s is the place to be.

Pumpkin Brioche Twist

First up was the Pumpkin Brioche Twist. Light and fluffy, just like regular brioche, but swirled with cinnamon. As Amelie put it, “It’s the spice part of pumpkin spice.” The pumpkin flavor was there, but it was very weak. More present were the streaks of cinnamon throughout the bread. This is definitely good for people who love fall and love the warm flavors, but not an overwhelming amount. In the broader category of brioche, we would rate it an 8.5/10. In the more specific category of pumpkin-flavored products, it would be a 6/10, because the pumpkin flavor was so muted.

Pumpkin Blondie Brownies

Next were the Pumpkin Blondie Brownies. There was definitely more of a fudge brownie texture as they were extremely dense and kind of gooey. They smelled really good once the box was open 😋. The actual blondie brownie was very soft, juxtaposed with the crunchy nuts. Water is definitely needed when consuming something as dense as this. The pumpkin flavor was a lot more present in these than in the pumpkin brioche, but still not incredibly strong. 6.5/10.

Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix

Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix

Next, we baked the Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix. Disclaimer: there were some user errors, but that’s just us (we burnt it). The measurements of oil were surprisingly large, but it turned out okay in the end. This is definitely very dense and it isn’t extremely sweet, which we liked. It’s definitely more of a classic pumpkin bread than the brioche, and a good fall staple. It would be amazing with some whipped cream on top and a nice chai. For a classic pumpkin bread, it’s a 9/10.

Pumpkin Spice Rooibos Tea

Up next, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Rooibos Tea. Now this smells incredible. As soon as you open the box, you’re transported to fall heaven. The taste of the tea is really good, too. It’s not overwhelming (because it is tea), but it definitely tastes the way you would expect. Rooibos is a South African tea that’s not caffeinated, so we like to drink this before we go to sleep. We rate this a 7/10.

Spiced Pumpkin Madeleine Cookies

After that, we tried the Spiced Pumpkin Madeleine Cookies. These were so good. Like, so good. They were perfectly pumpkin-y with just the right amount of fluffiness, exactly how you would want a pumpkin madeleine to be. If you plan on trying these, stock up! You’ll eat them all so fast. They’re delicious. 10/10.

Petite Pumpkin Spice Cookies

These Petite Pumpkin Spice Cookies were petite, crunchy, and packed with flavor. The pumpkin spice was definitely strong and complemented the yogurt coating around the cookie. This is the kind of thing you could curl up on the couch with in front of a fall movie and finish the whole box, or take out for  Friendsgiving and share with your friends! I imagine tea would be good with these. 9/10.

Pumpkin Flavored Pumpkin Seeds

Up next, Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Flavored Pumpkin Seeds. Talk about pumpkin! These smell amazing when you open the bag. The seeds are crunchy and they’re the perfect texture for adding into yogurt. Overall, the flavor of pumpkin in the seeds isn’t very strong, but there is a hint of them. 5/10

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread

Oh my god, when I say I’m obsessed with this Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread, I mean it. It’s amazing. Good on bread, on bagels, on crackers; it’s perfectly pumpkin and creamy. Please add this to your cart, especially if you’re a regular cream cheese fanatic to begin with. It’s an everyday food that is made instantly better with the touch of fall added to it.

10/10.

Pumpkin Sticky Toffee Cakes

Wow, you will not regret buying this. My only complaint is that there are only two per box. These Pumpkin Sticky Toffee Cakes are rich and flavorful, and fantastic with whipped cream or ice cream. They’re sweet without being too sweet; they’re just sweet enough. Hoard these!

10/10.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Croissants

I think you should try these Pumpkin Cheesecake Croissants at least once. Now, I’m not guaranteeing that they’ll become your new favorite; however, I think they’re worth a  try. The pumpkin cheesecake filling was a little deflated, but the croissant crust was nice and flaky. I would eat them again.

7/10.

Pumpkin Ginger Mini Hold The Cones

Closing out with another banger, everyone knows that the Trader Joe’s Mini Hold The Cones are the perfect after dinner dessert snack, but these Pumpkin Ginger ones really blew me away. I could eat the whole box in one sitting and still want more. They’re addictive. They’re the perfect fall flavor while still being a cold dessert, whereas most fall desserts are served hot. The pumpkin ice cream and coating go together so well, and the crunch of the cone is a nice touch. You’re going to want to hide these from the rest of your hungry family.

10/10.

Pumpkin Maple Bacon Flavored Stuffies Dog Treats

BONUS: The Pumpkin Maple Bacon Flavored Stuffies Dog Treats. Amelie’s dog, Ozzy, loved these! He got so excited whenever he was offered one, and he is extremely picky. Ozzy thinks they’re delicious! 10/10 from him.

Whew! That was a boatload of pumpkin stuff. With the amount of pumpkin foods at our houses, we’re going to be eating and breathing pumpkin for the rest of fall (which we can’t complain about). If you are a pumpkin fanatic, definitely pop on over to Trader Joe’s and see what they have to offer. Honestly, there’s no better way to snuggle up and watch a comforting fall movie than with a slice of warm Trader Joe’s pumpkin bread fresh out of the oven and a relaxing cup of Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Rooibos Tea with friends or family. You’re missing out if you don’t.
