Fashionista of the Month: Average Needham Rocket

Published April 1st

A lot has changed since I started writing this column in the fall of 2021. Firstly, I’ve received a flattering number of requests from people wishing to be next month’s star, and secondly, I’ve heard an even larger number of varying complaints, mostly through the grapevine. You complain about the people I’ve picked. You complain about the people I’ve refused to pick. You complain that someone was picked before you were picked when really, you don’t find them to be very fashionable at all, and by comparison, you were the obvious choice. You have no patience. From all of this, I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t make everyone happy.

Since you haven’t been satisfied with my recent articles, I’m going a different route this edition. I haven’t pleased anyone, so I will try to please everyone. Or, as many people as I can, at least. That’s right, this month’s fashionista is everyone and no one: the Average Needham Rocket!

Take me through your favorite outfits, head to toe.

My tops all fit into these categories: oversized sweatshirt (college), oversized sweatshirt (road trip location), merch from my sports team, Brandy Melville, and solid colored. I mix and match these with my four pairs of pants. Flannel pajama pants, gray sweatpants, leggings, and blue jeans. I pair these with white socks.

Please, describe your shoe collection.

“Collection” is a stretch. I have white sneakers and Uggs.

Ideal earring stack?

I only wear pearls and small hoops. Actually, sometimes I wear small hoops with a little pearl dangling from them. I’ve got a lot of different kinds of small hoops. I love to stack a bunch of pearls next to each other. Or, I’ll stack a bunch of hoops next to each other. Once I mixed and matched pearls and hoops together, actually. I got a lot of compliments that day.

Starbucks order?

I’m not a big fan of bitter drinks. Or hot drinks. I love a strawberry açaí lemonade refresher, light ice, no strawberry pieces. And a cake pop. If the cold science classes are putting me to sleep and I need more caffeine, I’ll get some form of milky, sugary, iced latte.

What does “almost Friday” mean to you?

To be honest, I’m a little confused.

Enough said. Stay tuned for more fashionistas this school year, and DM @hilltoppernhs on Instagram to nominate yourself or a friend as a future fashionista!
