Our Mission
The Mission of the Lewiston High School Health and Physical Education (HPE) Department is to empower students to develop and apply the knowledge, skills and confidence that contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Physical education GRADING:
As a participation-based course, your grade is a combination of participation and assessments demonstrating proficiency of the Idaho P.E. Standards. Grades are updated approx. every 2 weeks in PowerSchool.
PERFORMANCE (15%) - Standards 1 & 2 - Skilled Movement & Movement Knowledge
Demonstrates competency in activity-specific movement skills, specialized skills, and individual-performance activities.
PERSONAL FITNESS (15%) - Standard 3 - Personal Fitness
Knows and practices the skills needed to maintain or improve current fitness level. *Includes FINAL EXAM & Quarter Quiz
PARTICIPATION (70%) - Standard 4 & 5 - Personal Responsibility & Valuing a Physically Active Lifestyle
Participates daily, takes on challenges, seeks improvement, chooses appropriate levels of challenge to experience success.
Demonstrates responsible behavior while engaged in activities. Includes: being a self-starter, actively participating each day, respecting the skills and abilities of others, collaborating with and offering help to others, and exhibiting leadership qualities.
ABSENCES:
ANY absence results in the loss of that day’s Participation Points (exclusions: Required academic testing, LHS approved & IHSAA sanctioned events). It is YOUR responsibility to complete a Physical Activity Make-up (before or after school in the fitness center) and any other academic work missed (tests, projects, etc.) within 3 weeks of the absence or by the end of the quarter, whichever comes first. The LHS school absence policy is followed and credit may be withheld upon the 7th absence during a semester (not including school related events/field trips). *NOTE: Unexcused absences, truancies & non-dress days are automatic participation deductions and may not be made up.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY MAKE UPS:
Location: Weight Room.
When: Times & dates are subject to change - always check with your teacher.
After School Monday - Thursday from 2:30pm-3:30pm.
It is expected that you are on time, check-in with the host teacher, be in workout gear, and actively workout in the weight room. One make-up session of 60 minutes or two sessions of 30 minutes in the weight room is required to get participation points for one missed period (85 minute block). Must complete within 3 weeks of the absence, or by end of quarter, whichever comes first.
