Students with a laude GPA of [UPDATED TO 4.00] or higher at the end of their sophomore or junior year will be automatically considered for potential membership in the National Honor Society. After being invited, each student must complete an invitation packet, highlighting their academic and extracurricular achievements that best exemplify the four pillars of NHS: leadership, character, service, and scholarship. Membership acceptance letters will be sent out in the spring and the induction ceremony will take place at LakeView to welcome the new members into the organization.
Once officially inducted as a member, students must remain in good academic standing, must meet the minimum attendance requirements, and must complete 10 hours of community service each semester, a total of 20 hours annually.
NHS members may be dismissed or disciplined for any of the following:
Falling below the standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and/or character
Dropping below a laude GPA of [UPDATED TO 4.00]
Violating the law or school rules/regulations
Failing to attend 3 meetings (this will incur a warning, followed by a letter of dismissal at 5 absences)
Being an offender of the school code of conduct
Or exhibiting any other behavior unbecoming of a National Honor Society member.
To run for officer elections, a member must indicate their interest and deliver an election speech. Officers will be voted on by their fellow members in conjunction with the outgoing officers. The newly elected officers will be announced at the following meeting.
