My name is Makayla McHugh and I am a member of Holliston High Schools Global Citizens Program. I joined the program my sophmore year and it was the best decision I have ever made. Global citizens has given me a space to feel included while learning about difficult issues such as climate change, discrimination, human rights, gender inequality and many more issues in a more in depth way. Being a member of this program has also aloud me to work with students of all ages who share the passion for climate change and sustainability that I do. Outside of school I enjoy playing tennis, running, reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, spending time with friends and family and working.
Throughout this program I have been able to experience a variety of interdisciplinary globally centered courses and real-world extracurricular experiences. I have leanred a lot about creative problem solving and have become a proud change-maker in my beautiful community and ever-changing diverse world.
Global Citizens has allowed me to work with other driven peers on issues I am passionate about. I have spent a mojority of my time working to combat food insecurity by holding food drives and educating others about food waste and the negative impacts it has on the enviorment. GCP allowed me to use the Green House at Holliston High School to grow my own food throught the winter and spring semester in a sustainable way. This project was so fun, I found so much joy in what I was doing and a passion for sustainability. I have also been able to do extensive reserch on climate change and continue to educate myself and others in hopes of inspiring and creating change.

As a participant in the HHS GCP, I understand that my focus is to make this world a better place. As such, I will act with honesty and integrity in all academic and social endeavors; I will be respectful of myself and others; I will do my own work as well as work collaboratively with others; I will be accountable for following through on my commitments; and I will take responsibility for my actions. Finally, I will encourage and celebrate the efforts of others in our common cause toward the greater good.
