I believe all students must feel safe and connected in order to learn. In the current context of a global pandemic and deepening racial and socio-economic inequities, I am committed to building partnerships with families and students so that all students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
The purpose of this website is for you to learn a bit about me, my background, and my educational philosophy. In this, you can see documentation of my work at Dominican University of California in their teacher education preparation program as well as work at my current position as 4th grade maternity leave replacement teacher at International Community School in Oakland, California.
I've been teaching since 1995. My first job in education was with the Pacific Foundation for the Performing Arts. I was an assistant teacher for students with special needs. We were a diverse group with needs such as cerebral palsey, autism, selective mutism, and intellectual disabilities. The experience showed me how powerful arts education and mainstreaming all students can be. I loved the challenge of differentiating instruction. Since then, I have always worked with kids-- tutoring reading, working as an Artsbridge scholar in public elementary schools, and teaching in private arts academies.
I did not go straight into education because I was busy working as a professional performer in film, television, theater, and concert dance! Later, I was busy starting my family. I have two school aged children. We love hiking, biking, rock climbing, going to museums, traveling, and seeing live theater, dance, and opera.
For the past fifteen years, I have worked at corporate health clubs in management, marketing, and teaching. I often taught whole families: grandparents, parents, and children. It has been wonderful for me to build relationships with my students, coworkers, and administrators. I've also worked in early childhood education at Twin Cities Preschool and Montessori of Central Marin, a dual language preschool. Besides education, I have served on boards of nonprofits and worked in management, sales, and administration for corporations.
I bring my experience as a seasoned professional and entrepreneur to the field of education. I love to meet students of all ages where they are at and see possibilities for and with them.
