EDUCATION PLAN

You will not be developing the Education Plan on your own. You will work closely with your peer mentor, integrative coach, academic advisor, professional mentor, professor, and/or other trained professional to develop this over time.

Expectation: Your "Education Plan" will begin development by your second term (or year) of enrollment. Please follow your academic program guidelines.

CHILLY PENGUIN EDUCATION PLAN

AREAS OF STUDY

ACADEMIC GOALS

MAJOR:

  • Communication and Media Studies
  • Concentration: Public Relations

DOUBLE MINOR:

  • Music, Instrument: Guitar
  • Community Action and Social Change

Example of a reflective statement to justify the inclusion of this video (aka "artifact") on Digital Portfolio:

Why include this video? When I was growing up, my father would listen to Eric Clapton and the Beatles. He would say how much he loved the melodies and how music could take him back to his past memories with his father. Music seemed to connect our family across generations. When I played this guitar solo at a recital performance, I will never forget seeing the tears well in my father's eyes.

SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM GOALS

I have many dreams and aspirations while I am attending Dominican University of California. I have a passion for Communication and Media Studies because of my interest in collaborating with others, which takes competent communication skills. If I am to become an influencer of upward mobility and change, I believe a concentration in Public Relations will prepare me for the development of persuasive presentation skills to effectively communicate messaging to broad and directed audiences. I would like to focus on the strengths and weaknesses of college preparatory programs and the impact on student confidence (or lack of confidence). The guitar is my main instrument which I have found to positively influence my personal motivation as well as lift the spirits of those around me. While I have many tools within my grasp to present an impact, my drive and focus are my current areas of direct attention. Through the guidance of my program academic advisors, professional mentors, and peer mentors, I feel confident that I will achieve my short term and long term goals. These are just a few experiences I plan to accomplish while at Dominican:

  1. Continue to play my music during and after college.
  2. Find a volunteer opportunity off campus supporting college readiness such as with 10,000 Degrees or AVID.
  3. Study Abroad or other Global Immersion Experience.
  4. Land an internship with a non-profit. (Pending opportunity with KQED Music Kids Program and with CMCM TV, channel 30, patnership with San Rafael Pacifics.)
  5. Take another Service Learning course to continue my involvement in community engagement.
  6. Successfully complete my college degree!
