CHILLY PENGUIN CAREER PLAN

I have a dream of opening a non-profit program for kids to build their self-confidence and pursue a college education. As someone who was the first in my family to attend college and anticipated to complete a four-year degree, I have encountered a number of challenges. The mentors, advisors, and integrative coaches at Dominican remind me of some of the leadership programs I participated in while in high school. Without their motivation, I am not sure I would be on track to completing my college degree. For me, it is so much more than a degree. Engaging in the Dominican and surrounding communities has lifted my spirits. At times I have been homesick, yet I have become empowered with my growing network of friends, campus professionals and off campus relationships.

From my various life experiences, I would like to see youth in my hometown of Haines, Alaska, to flourish and pursue their dreams and aspirations. When I complete my degree, I may consider completing a program to be a Life Coach, but ultimately, I would like to open my own business to support children preparing themselves for college and to complete their degree. Encouraging personal growth and self development sends a positive ripple effect through communities. My goal is to be part of that ripple.

USE MY VOICE

In the short term and long term, I anticipate to fully demonstrate my skills and knowledge, no matter the platform. From in person to the use of multimedia, my goal is always to present myself, core values and beliefs, as well as as the primary business at hand to facilitate and communicate progressive movement.

BUSINESS OWNER

Long term professional goal is to ultimately own my own business.

Why is this video relevant? During my seminar course for my major, we explored various methods of digital storytelling. When in my Mastering College seminar, we were prompted with this TEDx Talks by Larry Smith to develop our 6-word personal memoir. I really enjoyed the concept and found myself having an "ah-ha" moment between the two courses. I thought maybe I could use my 6-word memoir as a spring board for other ongoing projects to further develop my long term project in sharing my personal story.

IF YOU COULD SUM UP YOUR LIFE IN 6-WORDS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

MY 6-WORDS:

"LISTEN REFLECT BACK AND LISTEN AGAIN"
