As an early elementary school teacher, my ideal workplace would be an integrative classroom that is suitable for students of all different abilities. My goal is to work in an environment that promotes a healthy sense of learning rather than a forced one. I want to encourage my students to express their emotions rather than suppressing them. My personal teaching philosophy will be to teach healthy relationship developing skills, emotional skills, etc. I want to cater to the whole child, rather than just teaching what the government suggests.
The setting of my classroom would be a place that would be productive for all types of learners. I would have sensory areas for students with neurological differences, a quiet place for students to go when they are feeling overwhelmed, a place for students to express their feelings in ways that are effective in their brain development and emotional development, etc. In a perfect world, I would have the freedom as a teacher to stick to State curriculum while also being able to teach emotional development skills, because often that gets lost in translation leading to children not understanding the importance of mental health from an early age.
As a new teacher, I will most likely begin my career at the bottom of the hierarchy, depending on what school I teach at. Since covid began, we as a country are in a pretty severe need for new teachers, so I am hoping that will raise my chances of getting a job early on.
