For this project we were tasked with either making a statement or saying something. I choose to say something, I did this by painting the ocean. The meaning behind it that things are not always what they appear to be. On the surface of the water and the sky it looks serene and peace full. But under the surface its dark and mysterious, leading to many things being hidden that are not wanting to be found. I had trouble with this project because I'm not really that skilled when it comes to painting. It was a long process to make the surface then the suface the water and finally the deep layers of water. I feel like I could have done better but i'm happy with how it turned out.
This was project was our first time working with stained glass. The first step was getting our outline, shading the back and tracing it out onto a large sticker. Then we cut out the sticker and put the pieces onto the color of the glass we wanted to use. After the stickers were on the glass we cut out the pieces and used a grinder to get the excess glass off. After all the pieces were cut out we put a copper film on the side that stuck on. Once we put the pieces together we put flux on the corners and used a sauntering iron to put zinc on the sides that stuck its glass together. Lastly we used a soft metal on the sides with flux and pushed the zinc onto it so it would stick.
For my stained glass project I chose to do a dragon mask. we were told not to do anything design that had over 30 pieces, this mask has 54. Needless to say this took a while. Once I had the stickers cut out for all the pieces I put them on the color of glass I wanted to use. Cutting them out took a long time since there were so many and most of the triangles for the eye were so small. The process to grind them down took even longer. Once I had finished grinding all the pieces down to the proper size I put the copper foil along the sides of all the pieces. This was very easy but time consuming. Once I started soldering the zinc onto the copper. This process was very fast and looked good, my only complaint is how the copper foil on the eye took up so much space that you can barely see the glass. This disappointed me but other than that I am happy with how it turned out.
