We are making these portraits for orphans in Honduras to try and bring the kid we drew joy and to spread God's love to them. I am really excited about this project as it will be something different than any other project and will be very meaningful. I hope that this drawing will bring joy to the orphan I draw and teach them to love art as much as I do.
In my opinion, the most important part of this project is for me to make a portrait that the child that I'm drawing likes and that looks like them. I think this project could be considered worship because we are admiring God's creation and trying to be kind to others through this project. The most important thing to be successful in this project would be for the final project to look like my kid and be a joyful representation of them.
I really enjoyed comparing and contrasting the different media to see which parts were easier for each media and which parts were harder. Oil pastels were actually easier than I thought they were going to be and I really liked how smooth they looked but I am choosing to do colored pencils because I like the color and I want to improve my colored pencil skills. I also think the hair will look better in colored pencils because they are more precise than oil pastels.Â
I really enjoyed making this project and I thought it was really fun to experiment with different collors to make her skin. I also really enjoyed doing her hair because it didn't have to be exactly the same as the picture. Overall I am very happy with how this portrait turned out. I hope Skarle feels loved when she recieves my gift and I hope she likes how it turned out as well. If I was giving it to her personally I would tell her that God loves her and that she has really pretty eyes.
Watching the video of the kids was super impactful because it was so fun to see their excitement not only to recieve their own portraits but for all the other kids to get theirs too. It was so sweet to see them all cheer for the person who gets called up and how they are all chanting their names. This video made taking the time to make my portrait look my best more worth it because I could see how much the kids treasure their portraits.
