For this project I was asked to make something that made a statement or told a story, I believe this piece does both. This painted was created using a photo that was taken after my sister and I had just won our first drill competion at the Reno Rodeo. I can still remember this hug from my dad and this picture is just so special to me. This painting also took on a dramtic effect because of the vivid red shirts which contrast with the more neutral background. I really enjoyed painting for this project and I really feel like my skills improved as I continued which was really fun.
This was a really fun way to introduce stained glass. I got to pick any colors that I wanted and I learned how to cut, grind, foil, and solder the glass. The biggest thing I learned during this project was the importance of cutting your glass precisely, I was excited to get to soldering so I didn't make all my pieces exactly ground to the right shape which made it a lot harder to solder and this also made my solders uneven widths but overall I learned a lot in this project and it turned out better than I thought it would.
I learned a lot during this project! it was a lot of fun to design the different sides of these candle holders because I had an idea of what I wanted to make but I could make the pattern whatever I wanted. I learned that when cutting small pieces it is better to cut them big and grind them later. It was also a challenge to solder the sides together when they weren't laying flat but that only made it more rewarding when it was done. I really loved how open this project was to do anything because it made it possible to make something you were going to use.
This was such a fun project to end on! I learned how to use the pottery wheel which was fun and I was glad that I caught on how to do it quickly. I plan to use these dishes when I go to college. I also really like how the glaze turned out because it is the perfect balance of color but still neutral.
