We have received pictures of children in Honduras who are facing difficult circumstances. I’m excited about this project, but I also feel the weight of making sure each portrait is meaningful and well-received.
I am creating a portrait for a nine-year-old girl named Judy, whose favorite color is purple. I believe the most important feature to capture is her eyes, as they can convey so much depth and emotion.
This activity can be seen as an act of worship, using the gifts God has given us to glorify Him while bringing attention to others. I will know my project is successful if Judy loves her portrait.
Oil Pastels
Colored Pencils
Pencil
I chose to use oil pastels because they allow me to truly capture the beauty of my child's face while also balancing the texture between skin and features. The richness and vibrancy of the pastels bring a sense of warmth and joy to the portrait, making it feel alive and full of emotion.

I believe Image Reflecting and Beauty Creating are powerful aspects of this project. Image Reflecting reminds me that every person is made in the image of God, and through this portrait, I have the opportunity to honor and highlight the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of my child. Beauty Creating allows me to use my artistic gifts to bring joy and light into someone’s life, capturing not just physical appearance but also the essence of who they are. This project is more than just artwork—it is a way to reflect God’s love and creativity while bringing encouragement to others.
Reflection
I am pleased with how the colors in my portrait turned out, and overall, I am happy with the final result. The process of creating it was both challenging and rewarding, as I focused on capturing Judy’s features while also bringing warmth and life to the artwork.
I hope that when Judy receives her portrait, she feels seen, valued, and loved. I want her to know that she is special and that this portrait was made just for her with care and joy. If I could speak to her, I would tell her, "I loved creating this for you, and I hope it brings you happiness. After watching the final, video I am very grateful that we did this project as a class. It was very exciting to see all the kids'reactions to their face.
