This painting captures a barn in Orange City, Iowa, a place close to my heart due to family ties in the area. My grandparents and aunt, who live nearby, encouraged me to create this piece. Initially, I considered a pencil drawing but ultimately chose watercolor to highlight the barn’s character and bring out specific textures, such as the sky’s openness and the wood grain with subtle water droplet effects. Overall, the project felt enjoyable and straightforward, as we were encouraged to focus on subjects and techniques we enjoy.
This is my stained glass project. I chose to create small tree ornaments to hang on my family’s Christmas tree at home. The process was challenging, especially when it came to precise glass cutting, filling, and aligning the metal around each piece. Despite the difficulties, I’m proud of the final result. However, if I were to do this project again, I would focus on improving my technique to achieve cleaner and more precise craftsmanship.
