I am very excited to be starting this project. We have received photos of children in the Honduras who have been going through a rough time. We are going to be drawing a portrait of them for them to receive and keep. My kid is a 9 year old boy named Ethan. This portrait will hopefully bring some happiness. We are able to choose between pencil, colored pencil, or oil pastel. We will be practicing all of them and then choosing one for the final project!
The most important aspect of this project in my opinion is when the kids receive their portaits. I am very excited to see how they react. This activity can be considered worship because we are using our skills to glorify God and uplift others. I will know that I am successful on this project if I am happy with the result and more importantly, if Ethan is happy with it.
I really enjoyed practicing this with pencil. I rediscovered my love for pencil drawings because we haven't done pencil in a very long time. Overall I think this practice went well.
I really don't know where I went wrong. I used to like colored pencils but I recently realized I am not very good at it. Overall it was good to practice, and I realized I am not doing colored pencil for the final product.
Oil pastel was very difficult. It's almost like a mix between colored pencil and oil paint. I couldn't really get the hang of it and gave up towards the end of the week. I realized I am not doing oil pastels because it is very difficult for me. I really respect artists who use oil pastels because this was difficult.
I really enjoyed pencil which was surprising to me. Going into this project I thought that I would like oil pastels the best, and those turned out to be my worst. I learned that I really liked pencil. I will be choosing pencil and I'm glad I got the chance to be able to practice different mediums before settling on my best one.
I can connect this project to Beauty Creating. I will be able to create a beautiful piece of art for a child who will really appreciate it. I can also connect it to Servant Working because I will be able to serve someone else and ultimately use my skills to serve God!
This is my final portrait of Ethan and I am happy with how it turned out. It went by very fast for me, and I got into a rhythm where it was just flowing so that allowed me to get a lot done fast. Overall this was a very enjoyable project and I am proud of myself and this drawing.
I hope that this child feels joy when he sees his portrait. I hope to brighten his day, and I hope he loves it. If I could talk to him about it I would say that I really enjoyed drawing it for him and I hope he appreciates it.
