Let's take a look at what the Marching Band accomplished in the past few years!
State Championships is a competition that Bayonne competes at every year and it is the most important one of the season. Bayonne took home first place for the first time ever and got the title of State Champions.
National Championships takes place after states, and it's also one of the more important competitions of the season. Bayonne took home second place this past season, which is the highest place they have ever placed at Nationals.
With the marching band's terrific 2022 season, the band was promoted to Open Class for the first time in the high school's history. The stakes for the competition were raised and Bayonne was officially recognized as an advanced and established band.
The Ludwig Musser Classic is typically held in October of the marching band season and Bayonne has competed there a few times. This year was the first time the band took home first and this was the first title won for the marching band.
Meet the Sections of the Bayonne High School Marching Band!
The Battery is the section that gives the ensemble tempo and the backbone that holds us together while playing music.
The instruments in this section include the snare drum, the quad drums, the bass drums, and the cymbals.
The Color Guard add to our visuals on the field & help bring the show to life. They dance, act and perform to put on a true show for the audience.
They are the only people on the field who don't play an instrument; instead they use flags and learn choreography.
Front Ensemble add all of the other percussion elements into the music that the battery doesn't. They are also the only people on the field who don't march throughout the show.
The instruments in this section are the marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, synth, auxiliary percussion and etc.
The Woodwinds are the section that add a lot to the melodic and harmonic lines in the band, helping the audience to recognize the popular tunes we love to play.
The instruments in this section are piccolo, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone.
The Brass section helps to fill out the sound of the ensemble, often being the loudest instruments the audience is able to hear.
The instruments in this section are trumpet, trombone, mellophone, baritone, and tuba.
Meet the Leaders of the Bayonne High School Marching Band!
The drum major is the leader of the band and the person students can go to if they need help or advice. Sam Price has been in the band since her freshman year and has been a dedicated member. The drum major typically conducts the band, but this year, our drum major was on the field playing! She played the piccolo this past season.
The woodwinds section leader is the one who takes care of and is in charge of all of the woodwinds. If you are a woodwind in the band, you would go to Katie with any of your problems and she would be able to help. On the field, Katie played the alto saxophone for this season.
When it comes to the brass section, the members go to Aiden with any of their troubles. Aiden is one of the longest lasting members in the marching band, going on 6 years. In the marching band, Aiden plays the trumpet.
The battery tends to be a chaotic group, and Samyak is the one who is there to take care of it. Samyak is very responsible with the battery and is there to solve any of the problems that they have. This past year, Samyak played lead snare drum.
Julia takes charge and is there to help the front ensemble. When they have to bring their instruments down to the field each day, she makes sure everyone has what they need and has done what they needed to. Julia played center marimba this past marching band season.
Rahma is also one of the longest lasting members in the marching band, has been here for 6 years. The color guard is a small section, but Rahma takes a lot of responsibility with helping teaching the members their choreography. Rahma doesn't play an instrument, but she was one of the main actors in our show this year.
