Concert Band is a class that you can take during the day in the high school. The class is split up into four different sections, based on experience; Band 1, 2, 3 & 4. In these classes, you learn different pieces to be played at the winter and spring concerts, as well as sight-reading, music history, composers, and more!
Let's take a look at the two different ensembles involved in Concert Band!
Wind Ensemble is an ensemble that only consists on students in the classes Band 2 and Band 3-4. These are the students at BHS that have been involved in Concert Band for 2+ years.
Concert Band consists of all students from each band class (Band 1, 2, 3 &4). This allows students in grades 9-12 to come together to play music together at the concerts.
Let's take a look at the sections that are in the Concert Band!
Woodwinds are the instruments that are cylinder shaped, and have a mouthpiece that usually has a reed to go with it. This section consists of flutes, clarinets, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, and bass clarinet.
Brass are the instruments that are made of metal and get put against the player's lips to make a vibration. The instruments in this section are trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, euphonium, and tuba.
Percussion are the instruments that typically keep tempo and add a bit of character to the piece. The instruments in this section consist of snare drum, bass drum, timpani, marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, glockenspiel, and auxiliary percussion.
