Based on the topic or type of activity, teachers implement student-based learning. They often combine several teaching methods in a single day to provide various opportunities for students to actively engage and gain meaningful learning experiences, such as by asking direct questions, facilitating active discussions, and organizing group work.
The learning materials used in the kindergarten grade are divided into three parts: general materials based on daily themes or topics, various letters (U/B/A and so on), and numeracy. Over the course of a week, children will learn a specific topic related to something familiar in their daily lives. The letter learning involves recognizing vocabulary in Tagalog that starts with specific letters. In numeracy, children gradually learn to identify number shapes, the arrangement of number characters, grouping numbers, adding numbers, and matching combinations of numbers, colors, and letters.
Learning materials are often presented through flashcards, videos, or educational toys. These go beyond teacher explanations, using images and objects to enhance learning. Children deepen their understanding by combining prior knowledge with new insights from peers and teachers in fun discussions. Teachers also adapt materials to real-life experiences, making lessons more relevant and meaningful.
Children's understanding of the material provided by the teacher is further enhanced when they have opportunities to sharpen their knowledge by answering the teacher's questions, actively sharing their insights independently in front of the class, and completing worksheets on their own.
