The K-12 curriculum, which was implemented in Ateneo de Naga Senior High School and other Philippine schools less than 15 years ago, is a relatively new addition to the Philippine education system.

A significant change brought about by the K-12 curriculum was the addition of the senior high school program. The Philippine education system previously followed a 10-year model, where students progressed from elementary school to a four-year high school, and then directly to college. The implementation of K-12 added two additional years to the secondary education level, creating the senior high school program. This change aims to provide students with a more comprehensive and well-rounded education before entering higher education
