Service Subcommittee

The Senate Service Subcommittee was founded in Fall 2024 in response to strong student interest in service-related activities. The goal of the subcommittee is to develop a centralized system to find or create service opportunities at New York Medical College for the wider student community. Formed with medical students across all four years, they work with partners in Westchester and current NYMC clubs to connect students with meaningful volunteer experiences. The subcommittee has already partnered with several external organizations, such as Feeding Westchester and the Community Food Pantry of Tarrytown, and is continuing to build new partnerships in this academic year.

The Senate Service Subcommittee is working to centralize all volunteering opportunities, both on and off NYMC's campus. Through establishing community partnerships to creating this calendar below, we hope that the barriers to volunteering are removed from medical students, such that they are able to attend more volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

I’m so honored to be serving as co-chair for the Senate Service Committee this year! I believe that connecting with community is essential for physicians to be well-rounded health care providers and that service is a core tenet of medicine. I’m excited to help the NYMC SOM connect more deeply with the local Westchester community and foster longitudinal relationships with volunteer organizations around the county.

Greg has a strong history of service going back to high school. He was highly motivated to continue volunteering in medical school and co-founded the Senate Service Subcommittee to help create opportunities for his fellow students who are also interested in service. He is constantly inspired by the great work of the other members on the committee and grateful for their collaboration in growing the subcommittee over the past year.

I joined the Senate Service Subcommittee (SSS) because service was a passion of mine in college, and I was eager to find ways to connect with and give back to my new community. I hope that by facilitating event organization as SSS Co-Chair, I am able to get my M1 class involved in Westchester and highlight the great community service that NYMC students do. The SSS team is wonderful and passionate about new service opportunities, and I am super excited to be a part of the crew.

Abigail Agyapong

Abigail Agyapong is an MD/MPH candidate at New York Medical College and a member of the Senate Service Subcommittee. She is actively involved in community-based clinical volunteering with clinics that serve patients facing barriers to care, including mobile and low-barrier clinic settings. Through this work and her mentorship of underrepresented pre-health students, she has developed a strong interest in long-term, patient-facing service that emphasizes continuity, outreach, and health equity, while integrating clinical care with public health principles.

I’m Shayna Weinstein, an M2 from San Diego, CA. Service learning and community engagement have been core to my journey in medicine, and my MPH background has fueled my passion for health equity and community-based work.
