The research committee is really focused on making research more accessible and less intimidating for students. A lot of folks want to get involved but aren’t always sure where to start. Our projects, between the Research Onboarding Guide, Alumni Research Repository, MSR SharePoint, etc., are all aimed at demystifying the process and making it easier to find mentors, build skills, and engage in scholarship. NYMC has such a talented, driven, collaborative student body, so strengthening the research infrastructure available to support them is ultimately our goal.

I have greatly enjoyed my time conducting research throughout undergrad and my gap years. At NYMC, I have been very passionate about continuing this work, while simultaneously helping to make research accessible to fellow students. To that end, Audrey, Shray, and I developed a Comprehensive Research Guide to address the barriers students face from beginning research to publishing. I can’t wait to continue our work!

I like the idea of helping my peers get more out of their med school experience. Medical school research is a great way to bolster candidacy for residency, but more importantly, it’s an opportunity to develop know-how and actually move our fields of interest forward. Having been involved in research in different ways over the past few years, it’s really gratifying to use that experience to make the process a little smoother for my classmates. And working with Audrey and Kathryn is always a plus!
